COURSE

WAHBH specialises in the delivery and implementation of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and Suicide Prevention & Intervention First Aid (SFA). Both of these courses teach people how to identify, understand and support someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue or have thoughts about suicide or attempt suicide behaviours.

We are Hummingbird Health (WAHBH) will come to your location and deliver comprehensive approved training to your employees, qualifying them as approved Mental Health or Suicide Prevention & Intervention First Aiders. They are then able to return to their workplace and offer in situ, bespoke and accessible mental health or suicide first aid where required.

Whilst these courses won’t teach individuals to be a therapist, it will teach them to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

On the MHFA course, candidates will learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill-health and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping themselves safe.

They will also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more.

What’s more, they will gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma.

Candidates attending the Suicide First Aid course will be educated on understanding suicide Interventions., how to recognise warning signs and most importantly how to support and guide individuals to the appropriate professional support. This is the UK’s only externally accredited suicide prevention programme, with the option to obtain a Level 4 City & Guilds qualification in Suicide Interventions.

WAHBH offers lifetime membership to all MHFA & SFA First Aiders, where we will continue to update them in training insight. However, more importantly, to create a community of first aiders so they have access to the same support they offer their co-workers - this is one of our key differentiators.
